THE NIGHT THE MOON DIED

Vision Powers, the Fall of New Arkadia, and the First Four Obscura

The final Universal Day of Universal Year I of Tzion continued.

But on New Arkadia, nobody was looking at calendars anymore.

They were looking at casualty boards.

At oxygen reserves.

At defence maps.

At the surviving sections of the Moon.

At Earth.

And increasingly—

at the sky.

Because the first Putrids had been a warning.

The Raptaxons had been a reconnaissance assault.

And none of them understood yet that the real invasion had not even begun.

I

THE THINGS A KWASAR MAY BECOME

Three days after the Raptaxon assault, Arthur destroyed a mountain.

Not a real mountain.

That distinction mattered.

But not enough to prevent Cass from staring at him as though several fundamental assumptions about reality had just become obsolete.

The training chamber beneath New Arkadia was one of the few places on the Moon large enough to contain a Kwasar demonstration safely. Its walls existed partly in physical space and partly within a reinforced spatial fold generated through ancient Kwasar technology.

Or magic.

Tom had stopped asking where one ended and the other began.

At the centre of the chamber stood a simulated geological formation nearly three hundred metres high.

Arthur stood before it.

No weapon.

No movement.

No expression.

Merlin looked towards The Entourage.

“Watch carefully.”

Cass folded his arms.

“He is going to punch it.”

Arthur looked at him.

Cass smiled.

“You are.”

Arthur turned back towards the mountain.

Merlin said:

“Not exactly.”

Arthur raised one fist.

For one second—

nothing.

Then golden pathways appeared beneath his Sublime Skin.

Not decoration.

Energy architecture.

His entire body changed without changing shape.

Muscle density.

Skeletal reinforcement.

Core alignment.

Every internal structure converging towards one decision.

The floor beneath Arthur's feet cracked.

Cass stopped smiling.

Merlin said only:

“ATLAS.”

Arthur struck.

The sound arrived after the destruction.

The mountain did not explode.

It compressed.

An entire face of simulated stone folded inward around a single impact point.

Fracture lines crossed hundreds of metres.

Then the structure collapsed.

Cass's mouth opened.

Max stared.

Kira whispered:

“What the hell?”

Arthur turned.

“That was low output.”

Cass looked personally offended.

“No.”

Arthur nodded.

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

Vega smiled.

“He's broken.”

Cass pointed towards the mountain.

“LOW?”

Arthur walked back towards them.

“Atlas is not maximum strength.”

He looked at Cass.

“It is controlled amplification.”

“Different.”

Cass continued staring at the ruins.

“Not different enough.”

Lancelot stepped forward.

Max immediately became interested.

“Your turn.”

“Yes.”

“What are you doing?”

Lancelot disappeared.

Max blinked.

“What?”

A hand touched his shoulder.

He turned.

Lancelot stood behind him.

Max stared.

“I didn't see you.”

“No.”

Tom frowned.

“Velox.”

Lancelot smiled.

“Yes.”

Tom looked towards the instrumentation.

“No measurable transit time.”

“There was transit.”

“How long?”

Lancelot considered.

“Enough.”

Tom's eye twitched.

“I hate Kwasar units.”

Lancelot stepped backwards.

“Again.”

This time the air cracked.

He moved across the training chamber.

Not vanished.

Moved.

But so quickly that light itself seemed confused about which version of him to display.

Several afterimages appeared.

Then disappeared.

Then Lancelot stood upon a platform two hundred metres away.

The sonic boom arrived.

Max laughed.

“That is absurd.”

Lancelot looked towards him.

“No.”

Then he looked upward.

Energy ignited around his body.

He rose.

Slowly at first.

Then accelerated.

The entire chamber thundered.

White-gold light streaked upward.

The ceiling's spatial fold opened.

Lancelot became a comet.

Kira shielded her eyes.

Cala whispered:

“Celeritas.”

Merlin nodded.

“Velox conquers terrestrial distance through acceleration.”

He looked upwards.

Celeritas conquers the sky.”

Lancelot dropped.

Straight down.

At the last instant he stopped.

Perfectly.

One centimetre above the floor.

Then gently stepped down.

Max looked towards Cass.

“I need that.”

Cass nodded.

“All of it.”

Morgana walked forward.

The ruined mountain reconstructed around her.

Not because of her.

The simulation reset.

She lifted one hand.

A transparent sphere appeared around The Entourage.

Soft.

Almost invisible.

Kira touched it.

Solid.

Morgana smiled.

“CLIPEOUS.”

Then she looked towards Arthur.

“Hit it.”

Cass immediately stepped backwards.

“Why do you say these things casually?”

Arthur punched the barrier.

The impact turned the entire shield white.

A shockwave rolled around the sphere—

but none entered.

Not wind.

Not sound.

Not pressure.

Nothing.

Kira slowly removed her hands from her ears.

Morgana looked towards her.

“Protection does not require receiving damage.”

She looked towards Arthur.

“Again.”

Arthur struck harder.

The barrier trembled.

Held.

Morgana's face tightened slightly.

“Again.”

Golden light surged through Arthur.

Cass looked alarmed.

“Maybe don't—”

Impact.

The entire chamber shook.

The shield cracked with lines of light.

But remained.

Morgana lowered it.

Breathed.

Cala stared.

“You held Atlas.”

Morgana smiled faintly.

“For a moment.”

Arthur corrected:

“Partial Atlas.”

Cala looked towards him.

“You people ruin everything.”

Merlin stepped into the centre last.

Tom already knew.

“Imperium.”

Merlin smiled.

“That is one.”

The destroyed stone fragments surrounding them began to rise.

Hundreds.

Then thousands.

Every fragment of simulated mountain suspended.

Not chaotic.

Ordered.

A sphere of stone around Merlin.

He moved one finger.

The entire sphere rotated.

Another movement.

The pieces separated by size.

Another.

By mineral density.

Tom stared.

“Simultaneous mass classification.”

Merlin looked towards him.

“Imperium obeys intention.”

The fragments returned to the ground.

Then Merlin vanished.

Reappeared beside Kira.

“ASGARDIO.”

Kira jumped.

“Stop doing that!”

Merlin vanished again.

Above them.

Then behind Cass.

Then beside Tom.

Then back at the centre.

“Spatial relocation.”

Tom nodded.

“Different from Velox.”

“Completely.”

“Distance folded rather than crossed.”

“Yes.”

Max raised one hand.

“Can you teleport to another planet?”

“Yes.”

“Another solar system?”

Merlin hesitated.

“Under the right conditions.”

Max's eyes widened.

Cass smiled.

Merlin added:

“And if you attempt it badly, there may not be enough of you at the destination to regret the error.”

Max lowered his hand.

“Useful detail.”

Merlin touched his temple.

And suddenly his voice entered all six minds.

Not through ears.

Inside.

Do not panic.

Kira immediately panicked.

“What the—”

Merlin's mouth had not moved.

Silentium.

Max looked around.

“This is creepy.”

Only because you are not accustomed to it.

Vega thought deliberately:

Can you hear this?

Merlin looked at her.

Yes.

Vega's eyes widened.

Fuck.

Merlin almost smiled.

Also yes.

Cass began laughing.

The link disappeared.

Merlin sat.

The others gathered.

The demonstrations were over.

The lesson was not.

Vision

Merlin looked across the six.

“What you just saw is why Earth has repeatedly transformed fragments of Kwasar history into myths of superheroes, gods, demons, angels, sorcerers and impossible warriors.”

Max nodded.

“That checks out.”

“But that interpretation is shallow.”

Merlin touched the golden lines running across his own Sublime Skin.

“A Kwasar is not defined by a collection of spectacular tricks.”

“Vision Powers are not a catalogue of spells.”

“They are manifestations of possibility.”

Tom leaned forward.

Merlin continued.

“Once the Kwasar state has been achieved, the being carries an adaptive architecture capable of developing extraordinary expressions of power. Not every Kwasar masters the same abilities. No Kwasar masters all of them.”

“But the horizon itself…”

He looked towards them.

“…has no known end.”

The doctrine the Magisters taught was simple in language and terrifying in consequence: Vision, Belief, Devotion, Integration, Manifestation. A Kwasar first conceives the power with sufficient precision, then disciplines body, Core and mind until the imagined possibility becomes a stable part of their living architecture. Educatio is the usual route; the far more dangerous Cognito allows knowledge to be transmitted almost instantly from Magister to sufficiently powerful Prenova, at the risk of catastrophic overload or death.

Tom stared.

“So the ability is not necessarily inherited in final form.”

“No.”

“The capacity is.”

“Yes.”

“And the Kwasar constructs the manifestation.”

“Through training.”

“Biological adaptation.”

“Yes.”

“Core modification.”

“Yes.”

“Neural restructuring.”

“Yes.”

Tom looked slightly horrified.

“That is incredible.”

Max smiled.

“Tom has discovered religion.”

Merlin raised one finger.

“Do not misunderstand.”

Max stopped.

“You cannot merely imagine yourself capable of destroying a galaxy over breakfast and achieve it by lunchtime.”

Cass looked disappointed.

“No.”

“Vision requires structure.”

“Belief is not pretending.”

“Devotion is not wishing.”

“And Integration can take decades.”

“Centuries.”

“Sometimes longer.”

Kira looked towards the Magisters.

“How many Vision Powers do you know?”

Merlin smiled.

“Enough to remain alive.”

“That isn't a number.”

“No.”

Tom sighed.

Arthur spoke next.

“The Vision Powers can be understood in families.”

He raised one hand.

Atlas amplifies physical force.”

Oblivion hardens the entire biological structure into a living fortress.”

Circuitry governs energetic distribution through the body.”

Hyper-Fury opens progressively deeper reserves under controlled emotional ignition.”

“And Kung Arts binds multiple Kwasar abilities into coherent martial expression.”

Cass nodded slowly.

His world becoming increasingly attractive.

Lancelot continued.

“Movement has its own disciplines.”

Velox.”

“Ground acceleration.”

Celeritas.”

“Flight.”

Asgardio.”

“Teleportation.”

Portalia.”

“Stable gateways.”

Max looked towards him.

“You can open portals?”

Lancelot smiled.

“I can.”

“Why have you never—”

“Because walking occasionally improves character.”

Max stared.

“I hate you.”

“Yes.”

Morgana spoke.

“There are abilities of mind and perception.”

Silentium connects consciousness.”

Nexo senses life and energetic presence.”

Hyper-Sense magnifies perception towards near-predictive awareness.”

Mystica allows communion across the threshold of the Antiverse.”

Control imposes will upon another mind.”

Kira's expression changed.

“Mind control?”

“Yes.”

“Isn't that horrible?”

“It can be.”

“Then why learn it?”

Morgana looked towards her.

“Because a weapon does not become moral by refusing to understand it.”

A pause.

“But some abilities demand stronger ethics than others.”

Kira nodded.

That answer mattered.

Merlin continued.

Imperium commands matter.”

Cannon projects condensed energy.”

Energya absorbs and repurposes energy.”

Vitalia accelerates biological restoration.”

Invisibilia distorts physical presence.”

Then the elements.

Aero.”

“Wind and pressure.”

Gea.”

“Stone and planetary matter.”

Pyra.”

“Heat and flame.”

Hydra.”

“Water and pressure.”

Skimo.”

“Cold and thermal withdrawal.”

Voltaris.”

“Electricity and electromagnetic force.”

Max looked around.

“That is already ridiculous.”

Merlin smiled.

“That is almost nothing.”

Max's smile disappeared.

“What?”

“The catalogue is infinite.”

Silence.

Kira looked at him.

“You really mean infinite.”

“As far as we know.”

“Gravity?”

“Yes.”

“Probability?”

“Yes.”

“Sound?”

“Yes.”

“Memory?”

“Yes.”

“Time?”

Merlin paused.

“Fragments and limited interactions are theoretically possible.”

Tom's eyes widened.

“Reality anchoring?”

“Yes.”

“Dimensional effects?”

“Yes.”

“Antimatter?”

“Yes.”

Max raised both hands.

“What can't you do?”

Arthur answered:

“Enough.”

Cass stared at his own hands.

“When do we start?”

Merlin looked at him.

“You do not.”

Cass frowned.

“We're Prenova.”

“Yes.”

“We're training to become Kwasars.”

“Yes.”

“So…”

“No.”

Cass looked betrayed.

Merlin pointed towards the hidden Ivoryta beneath Cass's skin.

“You cannot carry true Vision Power architecture safely yet.”

“Why?”

“Because you have not become Sublime Warriors.”

The room changed.

The phrase returned.

Again.

The next threshold.

Merlin continued.

“Ivoryta made your bodies capable of surviving the first transformation.”

“Sublime integration will prepare you to interact with Arkana without being destroyed by it.”

“And only after that…”

He looked at them.

“…does serious Kwasar Educatio begin.”

Tom asked quietly:

“So everything we have done…”

“Preparation.”

Cass laughed once.

Almost offended.

“Everything?”

“Yes.”

“Huruk?”

“Preparation.”

“Orión?”

“Yes.”

“Lobo?”

“Yes.”

“Raven?”

“Yes.”

“The Moon battle?”

Merlin's face changed.

“War.”

Cass stopped.

Arthur looked towards all six.

“The difference matters.”

“You were permitted to fight because survival required it.”

“Do not confuse survival with readiness.”

Max leaned back.

“So Sublime Warrior first.”

“Yes.”

“Then Vision Powers.”

“Yes.”

“Then Kwasar.”

“If you survive.”

Max nodded.

“Very motivational.”

Merlin was about to answer.

Then Morgana stood.

Fast.

Too fast.

Everyone turned.

Her face had gone pale.

Merlin was already looking towards her.

Silentium passed between the four Magisters.

The Entourage could not hear it.

Yet.

Arthur's body changed.

Gold intensified.

Lancelot stopped smiling.

Merlin whispered:

“No.”

Tom stood.

“What?”

No one answered.

Morgana looked upwards.

Not towards the ceiling.

Farther.

Through kilometres of lunar stone.

Through New Arkadia.

Into space.

Nexo.

Mystica.

Something had arrived.

Her voice became almost inaudible.

“They found us.”

II

THE LAST INVASION

The first alarm did not sound.

That was how Tom knew this was worse.

New Arkadia's defence network simply disappeared.

Every tactical screen went black.

Every communication channel stopped.

No siren.

No warning.

No signal.

Only silence.

Then the Moon shook.

The training chamber doors opened automatically.

Emergency lights flooded the corridor.

People were running.

Soldiers.

Students.

Engineers.

Families.

Someone shouted:

“ORBITAL CONTACT!”

Another:

“WE LOST THE RING!”

Tom grabbed a terminal.

Nothing.

Cass looked towards Merlin.

“What is happening?”

Merlin's eyes were burning.

“Nexo.”

He was sensing something.

Then he looked towards the six.

And for the first time since they had met him—

Merlin looked frightened.

Not worried.

Not concerned.

Afraid.

“Obscura.”

Cass stopped.

“How many?”

Merlin did not answer.

Arthur did.

“Too many.”

The northern observation dome became transparent under emergency protocol.

Everyone nearby looked towards space.

Earth hung above the lunar horizon.

Blue.

Damaged.

Beautiful.

And between Earth and the Moon—

darkness moved.

Not ships alone.

Figures.

Hundreds.

Some flying.

Some emerging through spatial ruptures.

Some standing on black warcraft surrounded by Rapax organisms.

Behind them came fleets of Raptax vessels.

Biological carriers.

Rapax swarms.

War-breeds.

And at the front—

four human shapes.

White skin turned grey-black.

Violet fractures where gold should have been.

The first one enormous.

The second thin.

The third almost impossible to keep visually fixed.

The fourth surrounded by burning darkness.

Excalibur Four stopped.

All four.

They knew them.

Lancelot whispered:

“No.”

Arthur's jaw tightened.

Morgana closed her eyes.

Merlin said four names.

Not loudly.

But The Entourage heard.

Vaeldran Mor.

Syratha Vey.

Narikel.

And finally:

Pyraxion.

Cass looked towards him.

“Who are they?”

Merlin's expression became stone.

“Old mistakes.”

Then New Arkadia's orbital defence ring exploded.

THE FIRST MINUTE

Humanity fired back.

That mattered.

This time there was no panic.

No confusion about extraterrestrial attack.

The Arkadian Defence Corps knew war now.

Every lunar emplacement opened.

Blaster batteries.

Plasma cannons.

Mass drivers.

Rail systems.

Orbital interceptors.

The remaining Altus combat units deployed.

Oasis trainees armed themselves.

Ordinary Sapiens formed evacuation lines.

Jason found The Entourage inside the northern transit concourse.

He was already wearing lunar armour.

Blaster in hand.

Rafe behind him.

Silas.

Jason looked towards the four revealed Kwasars.

Then Cass.

“What is it?”

Cass answered:

“The bad one.”

Jason stared.

“That does not help.”

Tom turned.

“Obscura.”

Jason went still.

He knew enough.

“Oh.”

Cass nodded.

“Yes.”

Fernand arrived.

No armour.

No weapon.

Of course.

He was moving students.

“Shelter level six!”

The corridors filled.

Antonio Reis's voice finally returned through analogue emergency speakers.

Not the main network.

Backup.

“This is High Warden Reis.”

The entire city heard.

“New Arkadia is under total assault.”

No euphemism.

“All civilian populations proceed to deep shelter.”

“All trained Defence Corps personnel report to combat zones.”

Then:

“No vessel leaves the Moon.”

People stopped.

Antonio continued.

“Our orbital routes are compromised.”

Silence.

“We defend where we stand.”

That was the moment New Arkadia understood.

There was nowhere to go.

III

THE SUMAYA HAD LEARNED

Tom saw it before Merlin said it.

The first Raptaxon assault.

The oxygen farms.

The corridors.

The defensive network.

The civilians.

The Oasis.

Tom's face changed.

“They mapped us.”

Merlin looked towards him.

“Yes.”

Jason frowned.

“What?”

Tom looked towards the hundreds of Oasis students being rushed through the corridor.

“They weren't trying to conquer the Moon last time.”

Merlin nodded.

“They were learning.”

“Population distribution.”

“Yes.”

“Defence response.”

“Yes.”

“Where the Oasis were housed.”

“Yes.”

Jason looked towards Tom.

“No.”

Tom's voice became hollow.

“They came for the EvoSapiens.”

Merlin looked towards the city.

“The Sumaya understood what Goddark intended.”

Three hundred Oasis.

A potential new generation of Kwasars.

Accelerated ascension candidates.

A future army.

The enemy had calculated the same equation.

Do not wait until they become Kwasars.

Kill them first.

Cass looked towards the fleeing teenagers.

“No.”

Merlin shouted:

“MOVE.”

IV

THE POWER OF EXCALIBUR FOUR

The first Obscura entered New Arkadia through space itself.

Narikel.

One moment the eastern dome was intact.

The next—

he stood inside.

He looked human.

That made everything worse.

A face that had once laughed.

Loved.

Trained Prenovas.

Maybe eaten at tables like theirs.

Now dead.

Occupied.

Narikel smiled.

Then activated:

VELOX.

The first thirty soldiers died before anyone saw him move.

Lancelot disappeared.

Impact.

Two streaks crossed the city.

White-gold.

Black-violet.

They hit a wall.

Vanished.

Reappeared above a transit bridge.

Hit again.

The shockwave shattered every window nearby.

Max stared.

He had seen Lancelot move fast.

This was different.

This was war.

Lancelot's Circuitry ignited across his body.

Velox.

Celeritas.

Voltaris.

All at once.

Lightning followed him.

Narikel answered with corrupted speed.

Two Kwasar bodies operating at the edge of perception.

They stopped being people.

Became lines.

Impact.

Thunder.

Absence.

The second Obscura fell through the northern defence dome.

Vaeldran Mor.

He landed.

The lunar floor cratered.

Arthur met him.

No words.

Vaeldran struck first.

Arthur activated:

OBLIVION.

The punch landed.

Nothing moved Arthur.

The corridor behind him collapsed.

Arthur remained.

Then his eyes burned gold.

ATLAS.

He answered.

The impact launched Vaeldran through three reinforced bulkheads.

Cass screamed:

“YES!”

Arthur vanished after him.

Not Velox.

Pure movement.

The battle continued beyond sight.

The third arrived without entering physically.

A voice appeared inside every human mind.

Soft.

Female.

Familiar.

Syratha Vey.

You are already dead.

People stopped running.

Some fell.

Others turned towards walls.

Morgana screamed:

“SILENTIUM!”

Her mind expanded.

The Entourage felt pressure inside their skulls.

Two consciousnesses colliding across the city.

Morgana's golden network.

Syratha's black one.

Run, Syratha whispered.

Morgana answered across every mind in New Arkadia:

NO.

Thousands of civilians gasped simultaneously.

Morgana planted both feet.

Golden blood emerged from her nose.

YOUR THOUGHTS ARE YOURS.

Syratha laughed.

Then attacked harder.

Morgana responded with:

CONTROL.

Not to dominate the civilians.

To break Syratha's imposed commands.

Thousands of minds released.

People began moving again.

Cala stared at Morgana.

Her Magister shook with effort.

Still stood.

Then Pyraxion arrived.

He came through the ceiling inside fire.

Not ordinary Pyra.

Corrupted stellar heat.

Black-red.

The central habitat dome began melting.

Merlin raised both arms.

IMPERIUM.

Thousands of tonnes of collapsing structure stopped.

Suspended.

People beneath screamed and ran.

Merlin held it.

Then Pyraxion raised one hand.

A sphere formed.

Cannon.

Dense.

Violet-white.

Merlin's face changed.

“MORGANA!”

She turned.

CLIPEOUS.

A barrier covered the fleeing civilians.

Pyraxion released.

The Cannon struck.

The dome became sunlight.

The shield held.

Barely.

Morgana screamed.

Arthur was gone.

Lancelot was gone.

Merlin held the collapsing city above them.

And the Entourage finally understood what a Magister-level Kwasar really was.

Not impressive.

Not superhuman.

Terrifying.

V

WAR AT THE END OF THE MOON

Then came the Rapax.

Thousands.

Not Raptaxons alone.

Winged forms.

Burrowers.

Heavy quadrupedal assault beasts.

Creatures with biological artillery organs.

Others designed purely to break doors.

Behind them came Raptax.

Intelligent.

Armed.

Coordinated.

And behind them—

more Obscura.

Not all as powerful as the four leaders.

But enough.

Too many.

The human defence began.

And for a while—

it worked.

Jason stood beside Cass again.

Exactly where their hatred had once made that impossible.

Blasters fired.

The two moved as one.

Rafe carried a heavy repeater.

Silas marked Obscura-adjacent targets for artillery.

Vega led the right corridor.

Tom coordinated three sectors.

Cala managed civilian flow.

Kira worked between combat and wounded.

Max moved wherever the line bent.

The Entourage were not the strongest people in New Arkadia.

Not remotely.

But they had become people others looked towards when things stopped making sense.

That became leadership.

“LEFT!”

Tom shouted.

A Rapax broke through.

Jason fired.

Cass intercepted.

EvoWild.

White Bio-Skin.

The creature hit him.

He held.

Jason emptied a full blaster charge into the exposed thorax.

Dead.

They moved.

No celebration.

Rafe shouted:

“BREACH SEVEN!”

Vega turned.

Thirty soldiers.

Too few.

She ran.

Silas followed.

“You don't have to.”

He looked at her.

“Neither do you.”

Fair.

They fought.

Kira found Fernand in the southern shelter access.

He was carrying a child.

Another holding his jacket.

Another behind.

“Where are you going?”

“Deep shelter.”

“It isn't safe.”

“I know.”

“Fernand—”

He looked at her.

“Kira.”

She stopped.

He had never spoken to her like that.

Calm.

Absolute.

“These children do not need me to be immortal.”

He handed her one.

“They need me to move.”

Kira nodded.

Then helped.

VI

ANTONIO REIS

The central command chamber lost power after forty-seven minutes.

Antonio Reis did not leave.

His officers did.

He ordered them.

Some obeyed reluctantly.

He remained with three technicians and the emergency reactor controls.

Fernand reached him over backup audio.

“Antonio.”

Reis looked at the destroyed tactical display.

“Yes.”

“We need the southern gate open.”

“It will expose the command level.”

“I know.”

“Two thousand civilians?”

“Two thousand three hundred.”

Antonio breathed.

Then:

“Opening.”

The gate unlocked.

Rapax entered the command level almost immediately.

One technician looked towards him.

“Sir.”

Antonio knew.

No rescue.

No Kwasar arriving.

He opened the reactor interface.

A manual destructive overload.

The technician stared.

“That will collapse the entire western spine.”

“Yes.”

“Everyone here—”

“Yes.”

Antonio looked at the fleeing civilian signatures passing beyond the blast doors.

The hard man.

The Warden.

The one who had once spoken of control as though order itself could preserve humanity.

Maybe it had.

Sometimes.

He smiled faintly.

“Fernand.”

“Yes.”

“Tell the children…”

He stopped.

Then laughed quietly.

“No.”

Fernand waited.

Antonio looked around his dying city.

“Tell them nothing.”

“What?”

“They have had enough adults telling them what they are supposed to become.”

Fernand closed his eyes.

Antonio continued.

“Just get them out.”

Then he triggered overload.

The western spine disappeared.

Thousands of Rapax with it.

Antonio Reis died with New Arkadia still standing.

For another hour.

VII

THE FRIENDS THEY HAD MADE

The war became unwinnable gradually.

Then suddenly.

That was how collapse worked.

One line failed.

Then another because the first had failed.

Then another because both had.

The deep shelter doors were breached.

The Oasis residential ring lost pressure.

The Altus defence unit lost communications.

The Raptax reached the medical sectors.

Obscura reached the training levels.

And every plan The Entourage had believed existed beyond that night disappeared.

Rafe died first.

The heavy blaster overheated.

He could have retreated.

Instead he stayed beside the closing pressure door while forty civilians crossed.

Silas screamed at him.

“MOVE!”

Rafe looked towards the gap.

More Rapax.

Then towards Silas.

“Close it.”

“No.”

“CLOSE IT.”

Silas knew.

Pressed the control.

The door descended.

Rafe remained outside.

Last thing they saw—

his blaster firing.

Then the door sealed.

Silas stood with his hand on the control.

No sound.

Vega grabbed him.

“MOVE.”

He moved.

Because that was what Rafe had purchased.

Silas died seventeen minutes later.

An Obscura Cannon tore through the corridor.

Vega survived because Ivoryta reacted.

Silas did not.

One moment he was beside her.

The next—

nothing recognisable remained.

Vega stood.

Frozen.

Cass found her.

“VEGA.”

No response.

“VEGA!”

She looked.

Cass grabbed her.

“We move.”

“I—”

“MOVE.”

Lobo.

Huruk.

Raven.

Every lesson cruelly becoming real.

She moved.

Jason lived longer.

Of course he did.

He and Cass reached the Oasis sanctuary level together.

They found bodies.

Children Cass had trained beside.

Some younger.

Some older.

The three hundred.

The entire reason Excalibur Four had come.

Not all dead yet.

Some fighting.

Some hiding.

Some screaming.

The Sumaya were systematically moving towards them.

Cass understood.

“They know.”

Jason looked.

“What?”

“They know exactly who they are.”

The enemy was not killing randomly.

It was extermination.

A group of Oasis teenagers emerged from a side corridor.

Twelve.

Unarmed.

Cass pointed.

“GO!”

A Raptax appeared behind them.

Jason fired.

Another.

Cass attacked.

More came.

Twenty.

Thirty.

Jason looked towards Cass.

“Get them out.”

“No.”

“I have a blaster.”

“So do I.”

“You have Ivoryta.”

“So?”

“So you are harder to kill.”

Cass stared.

Jason smiled.

“Genetically.”

Cass laughed despite everything.

“You asshole.”

“Yes.”

Then Jason pushed him towards the children.

“Go.”

Cass did not.

Jason's expression hardened.

“CASS.”

Old rivalry.

Old friend.

Cass looked at him.

Jason said:

“You saved me first.”

That was the last thing.

Then the Raptax hit.

Jason turned.

Fired.

Cass ran with the children.

He hated himself for obeying.

The explosion behind him told him when Jason died.

Cass did not turn.

Raven had taught him that too.

Some voices could choose your movement if you let them.

He kept running.

Tears inside Ivoryta.

The twelve Oasis children did not survive either.

An Obscura broke through the evacuation shaft.

Cass fought.

He tried.

God, he tried.

But he was not a Kwasar.

Not Sublime.

Not ready.

One by one—

they fell.

Arthur arrived too late.

Cass stood among them.

Covered in blood.

Arthur looked around.

Then at Cass.

There was nothing to say.

Cass screamed:

“DO SOMETHING!”

Arthur's face broke.

For once.

Not Magister.

Not wall.

Man.

“I can't.”

Cass looked at him.

“You're a Kwasar!”

“I KNOW.”

“THEN DO SOMETHING!”

Arthur grabbed him.

A Rapax charged.

Arthur killed it without looking.

“CASS.”

“NO!”

“LOOK AT ME.”

Cass did.

Arthur's voice shook.

“We are losing the Moon.”

VIII

FERNAND CLAES

Fernand died without ever carrying a weapon.

That was exactly right.

He reached Shelter Nine with forty-three students.

Ordinary Sapiens.

Altus.

Oasis.

No distinction.

The shelter had enough space for thirty-eight.

Fernand did not calculate who deserved it.

He opened the door.

Loaded children.

One by one.

When capacity reached maximum, a technician said:

“That's it.”

Fernand looked at the five remaining.

Then inside.

He stepped out.

“Again.”

“Sir—”

“Again.”

Four adults inside understood.

They stepped out.

Five children entered.

The door sealed.

Fernand remained outside.

He heard the Rapax coming.

Then saw Tom at the end of the corridor.

“FERNAND!”

Tom ran.

Merlin behind him.

Fernand smiled.

Of all the people in the Universe—

Tom.

The child who had always wanted the correct answer.

Fernand looked almost relieved.

Tom reached him.

“There's another route.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“Tom.”

“I know the plans.”

“Tom.”

“We can—”

Fernand placed both hands on his shoulders.

“Stop solving.”

Kael.

Orión.

Merlin.

Every teacher finding the same wound.

Tom stared.

Fernand smiled.

“You have spent your whole life trying to understand what you are.”

Tom's face collapsed.

Fernand continued.

“You are not a result.”

“You are not a programme.”

“You are not the answer to someone's crisis.”

“You are Tom.”

Tom was crying now.

Fernand looked towards the others arriving.

Cass.

Max.

Vega.

Cala.

Kira.

Six.

His six.

The music room.

The first impossible song.

The Entourage.

His greatest educational success had never been their scores.

It had been that they loved one another.

Fernand whispered:

“Whatever they make you…”

His eyes moved towards Merlin.

“…whatever the Universe needs you to become…”

Then back.

“Do not let anyone turn you into weapons before they remember you are people.”

Merlin lowered his eyes.

He understood the accusation.

And accepted it.

Fernand smiled.

“Good.”

Then the ceiling opened.

Syratha's corrupted energy entered.

Merlin raised Clipeous? No time.

Fernand vanished inside violet light.

Tom did not scream.

That was worse.

He stood completely still.

Then his body folded.

Merlin caught him.

Tom whispered:

“No.”

Merlin held him.

“No.”

Again.

“No.”

The word eventually stopped sounding like language.

IX

THE MOON IS LOST

Two hours into the battle, Merlin knew.

Not believed.

Knew.

Nexo showed him.

Life signatures disappearing.

Thousands.

Then hundreds.

Then dozens.

The three hundred Oasis signatures—

gone.

Every one except those belonging to The Entourage.

The Altus sectors—

gone.

Fernand—

gone.

Antonio—

gone.

Jason.

Rafe.

Silas.

Jamal.

Akari.

The Defence Corps.

The teachers.

The children.

The musicians.

The cooks.

The people who had complained about artificial eggs.

New Arkadia was becoming a tomb before it had finished becoming a city.

Merlin opened Silentium to the other three Magisters.

We withdraw.

Arthur answered instantly.

No.

Morgana:

Merlin—

Lancelot:

Not yet.

Merlin looked towards the six.

The Entourage survives.

Arthur understood.

Hated it.

There are others.

Not for long.

Silence.

Then Merlin said the truth none wanted.

The Oasis are gone.

Arthur stopped fighting for half a heartbeat.

Vaeldran hit him.

He crossed a city block.

Stood again.

But the sentence remained.

The plan had failed.

Goddark's three hundred.

Gone.

The new Kwasar reserve.

Gone.

Everything Excalibur Four had crossed Tzion to protect.

Gone.

Except six.

Three EvoSapiens.

Three ordinary Sapiens somehow drawn into the same impossible chord.

The Entourage.

X

EXCALIBUR FOUR AGAINST THE OBSCURA

Merlin brought the six towards the central transit dome.

The Magisters converged.

So did the four Obscura.

The city died around them.

This became the final battle of New Arkadia.

ARTHUR AND VAELDRAN

Vaeldran Mor was larger than Arthur.

Not by much.

Enough.

His dead Sublime Skin looked like granite veined with violet fire.

He had once been known as one of the greatest defensive Kwasars of his age.

Now every gift that had protected life protected the thing occupying him.

Vaeldran activated:

OBLIVION.

Arthur struck with Atlas.

The blow would have demolished a fortress.

Vaeldran barely moved.

Then answered.

Arthur crossed the floor.

Rolled.

Stood.

Cass watched.

Arthur smiled.

Not happiness.

Recognition.

Finally an enemy strong enough to require everything.

Golden energy exploded.

HYPER-FURY — LEVEL I.

The chamber shook.

Vaeldran responded with corrupted energy.

Two titans collided.

Atlas.

Oblivion.

Kung Arts.

Each strike produced visible pressure rings.

Neither yielded.

Arthur shifted.

Circuitry routed power.

Oblivion into ribs.

Atlas into right arm.

Velox micro-burst through footwork.

Knee.

Elbow.

Palm.

Cannon at point-blank range.

Vaeldran flew.

Returned.

The fight became impossible.

LANCELOT AND NARIKEL

Narikel vanished.

Lancelot smiled for the first time since the invasion.

“Again.”

Then he disappeared too.

Max could not follow.

Nobody could.

Only Nexo registered them.

Two signatures flickering through the city.

Velox.

Celeritas.

Invisibilia.

Voltaris.

Narikel reappeared behind Max.

Lancelot intercepted before the strike.

Lightning detonated.

Both launched upward through the collapsing dome.

They fought in lunar vacuum.

No sound.

Only light.

Lancelot's aura white-gold.

Narikel violet-black.

They crossed kilometres between flashes.

Lancelot used Celeritas to gain altitude.

Narikel Asgardio behind him.

Lancelot teleported again.

Narikel followed.

Space itself became part of the duel.

Then both hit the Moon hard enough to open a crater.

MORGANA AND SYRATHA

Their fight barely moved.

That was worse.

Two women stood twenty metres apart.

The world between them distorted.

Silentium.

Control.

Mystica.

Nexo.

Hyper-Sense.

The physical battle was happening inside minds.

Syratha smiled.

Morgana's face changed.

She saw things.

Sera Valen dying.

Friends.

Old failures.

People she could not save.

The Entourage heard Syratha's voice despite Morgana's shield.

You always arrive too late.

Morgana trembled.

Cala screamed:

“DON'T LISTEN!”

Syratha laughed.

She believes you are her mother.

Cala froze.

Morgana's eyes opened.

White-gold.

“Wrong.”

Syratha's smile faded.

Morgana raised one hand.

MYSTICA.

The spiritual architecture beneath the Obscura body became visible.

Black.

Foreign.

Something wearing the remains.

Morgana whispered:

“You are not Syratha.”

The thing stopped smiling.

“You are only standing where she died.”

Then Morgana attacked.

The entire mental field shattered.

MERLIN AND PYRAXION

Fire met thought.

Pyraxion unleashed Pyra.

Merlin used Aero.

The flame split around him.

Pyraxion followed with Cannon.

Merlin bent the incoming blast with Imperium.

Not stopped.

Redirected.

It hit the lunar surface.

A crater opened.

Pyraxion activated Gea.

The Moon itself rose.

Thousands of tonnes of rock.

Merlin countered with Imperium.

Stone suspended between them.

Pyraxion ignited it.

Molten lunar fragments.

Merlin opened Portalia.

A gateway.

The molten storm entered.

Exited behind Pyraxion.

The Obscura turned.

Too slow.

His own attack hit him.

Cass shouted:

“MERLIN!”

Merlin looked almost offended by the interruption.

Then Pyraxion emerged from the fire untouched.

Oblivion.

Merlin sighed.

“Of course.”

XI

WHY FOUR WERE NOT ENOUGH

For several minutes, Excalibur Four looked capable of winning.

That was the worst part.

Because hope returned.

Arthur drove Vaeldran backwards.

Lancelot wounded Narikel.

Morgana broke Syratha's mental hold.

Merlin forced Pyraxion through two spatial gates.

Human soldiers watching from surviving corridors began cheering.

The Entourage believed.

Maybe.

Maybe the legends were enough.

Then the rest of the Obscura arrived.

Seven.

Then twelve.

Then more.

Not Tetrarch-level.

Did not need to be.

Each one was still a dead Kwasar body.

Each one carried demigod architecture.

And behind them—

Raptax.

Rapax.

The surviving city.

No army could sustain that equation.

Arthur saw.

Merlin saw.

The Entourage did not want to.

Morgana raised Clipeous.

A city-scale barrier formed around the final group.

Obscura Cannon blasts struck.

One.

Two.

Five.

Ten.

The shield cracked.

Morgana screamed.

Vitalia began repairing her own neural damage while she maintained the barrier.

Blood ran down her face.

Cala grabbed her.

“MORGANA!”

“Stay behind me.”

“No!”

“CALA.”

The shield cracked again.

Lancelot landed.

One arm hanging badly.

Vitalia started rebuilding it.

Max stared.

“You're hurt.”

Lancelot smiled weakly.

“Observant.”

“Can you fight?”

“Yes.”

“Should you?”

“No.”

Then he turned back towards Narikel.

Max grabbed him.

“Don't.”

Lancelot looked.

Something passed between Magister and Prenova.

Then Lancelot touched Max's face.

“Today you do not get to decide that.”

Max started crying.

Lancelot smiled.

“Tomorrow, perhaps.”

Arthur reached Cass.

Half his Sublime Skin damaged.

Gold flickering.

Cass had never seen him look tired.

“Arthur.”

“Stay with the group.”

“We can fight.”

“No.”

“Ivoryta—”

“No.”

“I'm not useless!”

Arthur grabbed him.

“You are not useless.”

Cass stopped.

“That is why you leave.”

Merlin's Silentium entered all ten minds.

Central contact.

The Entourage instinctively moved together.

The four Magisters surrounded them.

Outside the weakening Clipeous shield stood Obscura.

Dozens.

Rapax.

Raptax.

New Arkadia burning.

Earth above them.

The Moon beneath.

Merlin looked towards Arthur.

“We cannot hold.”

Arthur stared at the enemy.

He knew.

Morgana whispered:

“Asgardio.”

Lancelot looked at her.

“Urkulo?”

Merlin nodded.

Arthur's face changed.

“That distance?”

“No alternative.”

“With six?”

“Yes.”

“We die.”

Merlin looked towards New Arkadia.

“Here we all die.”

Silence.

Then Arthur nodded.

XII

THE DEATH OF NEW ARKADIA

Before they could begin—

the Moon cracked.

Not metaphorically.

A black line appeared across the lunar horizon.

Tom looked.

“What…”

Pyraxion raised both hands outside the barrier.

Other Obscura joined him.

Gea.

Cannon.

Portalia.

Perhaps abilities The Entourage did not know.

The Sumaya had not come merely to kill New Arkadia.

They had come to erase the refuge.

A fracture began beneath the city.

Deep.

Thousands of kilometres.

The Moon groaned through structure.

Earth would never hear the sound.

The Entourage did.

Through floor.

Bones.

Ivoryta.

A dying planetary body.

Merlin's Nexo expanded.

He felt the final survivors.

Very few.

Then fewer.

Then—

none.

Apart from them.

Ten life signatures.

Four Kwasars.

Six Prenovas.

That was all.

New Arkadia was dead.

Merlin closed his eyes.

Then said:

“They're gone.”

Nobody asked who.

Everyone.

Cass screamed Jason's name anyway.

No answer.

Kira screamed Fernand.

No answer.

Vega fell to her knees.

Cala held her.

Tom stared at nothing.

Max whispered:

“Rafe.”

Then Silas.

Then names.

One after another.

As if names could keep people from disappearing.

Raven would have understood.

Outside, the lunar crust separated.

The great habitat domes collapsed.

The oxygen farms ruptured.

New Arkadia—

the city built to save humanity—

opened to vacuum.

The Moon began to die.

XIII

THE IMPOSSIBLE ASGARDIO

The four Magisters formed a circle.

Merlin looked towards The Entourage.

“Each of you touches one of us.”

No explanation.

Not enough time.

Cass grabbed Arthur.

Vega too.

Tom and Kira took Merlin.

Cala held Morgana.

Max held Lancelot.

Merlin opened Silentium.

Not conversation.

Synchronization.

Four Kwasar minds aligned.

Morgana used Nexo.

Not to sense enemies.

To locate one signature across an impossible distance.

Urkulo.

The Mother Planet.

Home of the Kwasars.

A point known to all four.

Arthur activated Oblivion.

Not against an enemy.

To hold their bodies together.

Lancelot opened Circuitry beyond safe limits.

Energy moved between internal channels.

Merlin began Asgardio.

Reality resisted.

Too far.

Too many passengers.

Too much mass.

Morgana screamed.

The shield failed.

Obscura entered.

Arthur released one hand.

Atlas.

One strike.

Vaeldran stopped.

“NOW!”

Merlin shouted.

Space folded.

For one fraction of existence, The Entourage saw everything.

Earth.

The broken Moon.

The dead city.

The Obscura.

Then stars.

Not passing.

Simultaneous.

Distance becoming an argument.

Their bodies stretched without stretching.

Their minds separated from orientation.

Kira screamed.

No sound.

Tom tried to understand.

Failed.

Max lost consciousness.

Cala thought she felt Morgana's soul leaving her hand.

Cass saw Arthur's Sublime Skin begin to split.

Vega felt Ivoryta wrap around her organs automatically.

Merlin's voice entered them.

HOLD.

Then:

HOLD.

Then no voice.

The Universe became white.

The Moon disappeared behind them.

Minutes later—

or none—

the spatial fracture consumed the remaining lunar body.

Earth's ancient satellite ceased to exist as a coherent world.

A field of incandescent debris spread where humanity's second home had been.

The tides of Earth would change.

Its rotation would change.

Its climate—already dying—would suffer another wound.

The planet remained.

But now it hung beneath a sky that had lost its Moon.

New Arkadia was gone.

Everyone inside it—

gone.

XIV

URKULO

Cass woke beneath a blue sky.

Real.

Not artificial.

He knew that before opening his eyes.

Wind.

Actual wind.

Grass.

Wet earth.

The smell of vegetation too rich for New Arkadia.

Birds.

Something enormous calling from far away.

He opened his eyes.

Urkulo.

He did not know how he knew.

He simply did.

Then he saw Arthur.

Cass crawled.

“Arthur.”

No response.

The Kwasar lay several metres away.

Sublime Skin gone.

Human body.

Blood.

Too much.

Cass shook him.

“Arthur!”

Nothing.

“ARTHUR!”

A hand moved.

Cass froze.

Arthur opened one eye.

“You are loud.”

Cass laughed.

Then cried.

Then hit him.

Weakly.

“You bastard.”

Arthur closed his eye.

“Yes.”

Merlin lay unconscious.

Kira beside him.

Morgana had stopped breathing.

Cala screamed.

Lancelot vomited blood and collapsed.

Vega could not move one leg.

Tom's nose and ears were bleeding.

Max remained unconscious.

The Asgardio transit had delivered them.

Barely.

For the next hours, nobody discussed the Moon.

They survived.

That was enough.

Arthur used the last of his energy to activate Vitalia on Morgana.

Her heart restarted.

Morgana later stabilized Merlin.

Merlin used Vitalia on Lancelot.

Lancelot complained immediately.

This reassured everyone.

The Entourage's Ivoryta repaired transit damage.

Slowly.

No one died.

That felt obscene.

After everyone else.

XV

THE FORBIDDEN WORLD

They were not in a city.

Not a palace.

Not one of Urkulo's great Kwasar settlements.

Merlin had deliberately chosen a forgotten training refuge hidden inside a vast mountain wilderness.

An old Magister sanctuary.

Centuries unused.

Stone halls partly swallowed by vegetation.

A lake.

White trees.

Distant peaks.

No roads.

No visible civilization.

That had been intentional.

Because The Entourage were not allowed to be there.

Two days passed before Merlin could stand properly.

The six gathered in the sanctuary hall.

No Mirror Cloaks.

No training equipment.

No jokes.

Merlin sat opposite them.

Arthur on one side.

Morgana.

Lancelot.

The Entourage looked hollow.

Jason.

Rafe.

Silas.

Fernand.

Antonio Reis.

Jamal.

Akari.

The Oasis.

The Altus.

The people of New Arkadia.

All dead.

The grief had no shape yet.

Too large.

Merlin spoke.

“Urkulo is forbidden to you.”

Max looked up.

“What?”

“Not personally.”

“Helpful.”

Merlin continued.

“Only Kwasars may enter the protected heartlands of Urkulo without exceptional sovereign authorization.”

Tom understood.

“We are not Kwasars.”

“No.”

“Then we're here illegally.”

“Yes.”

Cass looked towards Arthur.

“You broke the law.”

Arthur stared.

“Yes.”

Cass almost smiled.

“Good.”

Morgana explained.

“Urkulo is not merely another planet.”

“It is sacred ground.”

“The oldest great Sapiens sanctuary.”

“Home to Kwasar lineages.”

“Orders.”

“Magisters.”

“Archives.”

“Training citadels.”

“Political structures you do not yet understand.”

“And people who would ask questions we cannot answer without exposing you.”

Vega frowned.

“Why would exposing us matter?”

Merlin looked towards her.

“Because the plan that justified our mission is dead.”

Silence.

“The three hundred EvoSapiens…”

Tom looked away.

“…are gone.”

Merlin continued.

“Many Kwasar leaders will conclude that Earth is no longer strategically recoverable.”

Cass's face hardened.

“Fuck them.”

Arthur looked at him.

Cass continued.

“Earth is still alive.”

“Barely,” Tom said.

Cass turned.

“Alive.”

Merlin nodded.

“Yes.”

Cass looked back.

“Then it's not over.”

Merlin smiled faintly.

“No.”

WHY THE SECRET MATTERS

Tom asked:

“Why hide us?”

Merlin did not answer immediately.

Then:

“Because we do not fully understand why Goddark drew our attention to the six of you.”

Kira looked up.

“Chosen Ones?”

The old phrase finally returned.

Merlin did not dismiss it.

“Chosen.”

He looked towards all six.

“Yes.”

“But never interpret chosen as protected.”

The Moon had taught that.

“Chosen means assigned significance.”

“Responsibility.”

“Attention.”

“Possibility.”

“Not immunity.”

Merlin looked towards Tom, Cass and Max.

“Three of you are EvoSapiens.”

Then Vega, Cala and Kira.

“Three of you are not.”

Vega nodded.

“We know.”

“That is precisely why the sixfold resonance makes so little sense.”

Tom frowned.

“Our energies synchronize.”

“Yes.”

“Despite different biological origins.”

“Yes.”

“Music.”

“Combat.”

“Mirror Educatio.”

“Even Ivoryta compatibility.”

“Yes.”

Merlin's expression became serious.

“Goddark did not point us towards three hundred.”

“He pointed us towards six.”

That mattered now.

Far more than before.

Arthur spoke.

“We have decided.”

Cass looked.

“What?”

“We protect you.”

“That was already your job.”

“No.”

Arthur's voice changed.

“Before, it was an order.”

Cass went quiet.

Arthur continued.

“Now it is choice.”

Morgana nodded.

Lancelot too.

Merlin looked towards the six.

“We have broken Kwasar law to bring you here.”

“We will break more if necessary.”

Kira stared.

“Why?”

Morgana answered.

“Because we believe you matter.”

Cala's eyes filled.

Morgana continued.

“And because we have buried enough Prenovas.”

XVI

ASGARDIO

Tom finally asked the question his brain had been trying to reach for two days.

“What did you do?”

Merlin knew.

“The jump.”

“Yes.”

Merlin looked towards his hands.

“Asgardio normally relocates a Kwasar by folding spatial separation between origin and destination.”

“Short-range jumps require comparatively little energy.”

“Planetary jumps require much more.”

“Longer movement needs precise coordinates.”

“Nexo.”

“Memory.”

“Spatial resonance.”

Tom nodded.

“What we did exceeded ordinary Sovereign Transit.”

“Yes.”

“You linked four Asgardio fields.”

Merlin smiled.

“Good.”

“And shared passengers.”

“Yes.”

“Why did Arthur use Oblivion?”

“To stabilize us physically during compression.”

“Morgana Nexo?”

“To hold the Urkulo anchor.”

“Lancelot Circuitry?”

“To maintain the energy synchronization.”

“And you?”

Merlin looked towards him.

“I folded the path.”

Tom stared.

“How far?”

Merlin told him.

Tom went silent.

Cass looked.

“What?”

Tom shook his head.

“No.”

“What?”

“That should not have worked.”

Arthur answered:

“It nearly didn't.”

Kira looked towards Morgana.

“You died.”

Morgana smiled faintly.

“For several seconds.”

Kira did not find this funny.

Morgana took her hand.

“I came back.”

Kira held tighter.

XVII

THE FIRST FOUR

Night came to Urkulo.

Real night.

Stars.

No artificial ceiling.

No Earth above the horizon.

For the first time since childhood, The Entourage looked at a sky where their planet was not visible.

Cass hated it.

Kira cried quietly.

Max did not hide that he did too.

They sat outside the ancient sanctuary.

A small fire.

Arthur had objected to making one.

Lancelot made it anyway.

Then Merlin said:

“You asked who they were.”

The six looked up.

“The four Obscura.”

Merlin nodded.

“Vaeldran.”

“Syratha.”

“Narikel.”

“Pyraxion.”

Cass stared at the fire.

“You knew them.”

“Yes.”

“Before.”

“Yes.”

“Were they your friends?”

Silence.

Merlin looked towards Excalibur Four.

Then:

“Not exactly.”

A pause.

“But we knew the people whose bodies they stole.”

That was enough.

Merlin began.

XVIII

BEFORE THE MOON

THE FIRST OBSCURA OF EXCALIBUR FOUR

It happened long before Earth mattered to the Kwasar councils.

Long before the Oasis Programme.

Before Fernand.

Before New Arkadia.

Before The Entourage.

The Sumaya war already existed.

But Obscura were still new.

Rumour.

Unconfirmed battlefield horror.

Reports of fallen Kwasars moving after death.

Most councils rejected the accounts.

Too impossible.

A Kwasar could die.

A corpse could be corrupted.

But Arkana architecture could not be used by something without a Kwasar soul.

That was doctrine.

Doctrine was wrong.

Excalibur Four were sent to a dead world called Velorian Reach.

A former Kwasar watch-world.

No civilians.

No cities.

Only an ancient fortress and a battlefield.

Four Kwasars had disappeared there.

The mission:

find them.

Recover survivors.

Retrieve bodies if necessary.

Simple.

Merlin smiled sadly.

“Simple missions are rarely the ones we remember.”

They arrived through Asgardio.

The world was silent.

Too silent.

Morgana sensed Sumaya contamination through Mystica.

Lancelot found tracks.

Arthur found bodies.

Thousands of Rapax.

Dead.

The missing Kwasars had clearly fought.

And apparently won.

Then someone called Merlin's name.

A man emerged from the fortress.

Large.

White Sublime Skin damaged.

Golden Arkana weak.

Vaeldran Mor.

Alive.

Or so they thought.

Arthur knew him.

Not intimately.

But enough.

Vaeldran had once taught defensive warfare at an Urkulo citadel.

A master of Atlas and Oblivion.

Known among younger Prenovas as the Kwasar who could stand beneath orbital bombardment and remain upright.

Arthur walked towards him.

“Vaeldran.”

The man smiled.

“Arthur.”

Correct voice.

Correct face.

Correct posture.

Even the old scar above the eye.

Arthur relaxed.

One fraction.

Vaeldran punched him through the fortress wall.

Cass looked towards Arthur.

“You fell for it.”

Arthur stared into the fire.

“Yes.”

Cass did not tease him.

Not this time.

Then Narikel appeared.

Lancelot knew him.

A legendary reconnaissance Kwasar.

Master of Velox.

Celeritas.

Invisibilia.

He had once beaten Lancelot in a speed trial.

Once.

Lancelot had complained for two centuries.

Narikel appeared laughing.

The exact laugh.

Then attacked.

Syratha Vey emerged next.

Morgana knew her best.

A former Magister of Silentium.

Mystica.

Mental defence.

She and Morgana had trained together once.

Syratha looked at her.

Then spoke a private sentence.

Something nobody else should have known.

Morgana froze.

The Obscura smiled.

It possessed enough neural memory to know where to cut.

Then attacked her mind.

Finally—

Pyraxion.

Merlin had fought beside the original Kwasar in three campaigns.

Pyraxion had mastered Pyra and Cannon.

A difficult man.

Arrogant.

Brilliant.

Loyal.

He emerged from the fortress burning.

Merlin looked at him.

“Pyraxion.”

The dead man smiled.

“Still late, Merlin.”

A phrase he had used many times in life.

Merlin knew instantly.

Not because the phrase was wrong.

Because the timing was perfect.

Too perfect.

A memory being deployed.

Not a friend speaking.

A weapon selecting ammunition.

Merlin attacked first.

XIX

FOUR AGAINST FOUR

That battle lasted eleven hours.

The first true Obscura engagement Excalibur Four ever survived.

They had entered expecting rescue.

They fought their own memories.

Arthur could not overpower Vaeldran.

Every Atlas strike met Oblivion.

Every attempt at restraint was punished.

Vaeldran possessed the original body's physical instincts without its ethical limitations.

A Kwasar body no longer afraid of destroying itself.

Arthur learned something terrifying.

An Obscura did not need to protect the body for a future life.

It could spend it.

Tear muscles.

Break joints.

Overload Circuitry.

Burn years of biological stability in minutes.

Because the Sumaya wanted victory.

Not longevity.

That made Obscura reckless in ways living Kwasars could not afford.

Lancelot fought Narikel across half a continent.

Velox against Velox.

Celeritas through storms.

Asgardio across mountains.

Narikel repeatedly pushed the body beyond safe thresholds.

Bones fractured.

Vitalia repaired.

Fractured again.

The Obscura was burning its stolen Kwasar body to death just to stay faster.

Lancelot realised:

He did not need to become faster.

He needed to survive longer.

For once in his life—

Lancelot slowed down.

Narikel destroyed himself trying to catch him.

Not enough to die.

Enough to weaken.

Lancelot escaped.

Morgana's battle was worse.

Syratha entered her mind.

Used memories.

Voices.

Friends.

Failures.

She made Morgana hear people begging for help from battles thousands of years earlier.

The dead.

The ones she could not save.

Then Syratha spoke with their voices.

Morgana almost surrendered.

Not physically.

Psychologically.

Then remembered something fundamental.

Silentium requires resonance.

Not truth.

A voice can be real in sound and false in identity.

She cut the mental link.

The lesson The Entourage had learned from Raven—

Morgana had learned from Syratha long before.

A familiar voice does not own you.

Merlin fought Pyraxion among the ruins.

Fire.

Cannon.

Imperium.

Gea.

Portalia.

They destroyed most of the fortress.

Then Pyraxion used Energya.

Absorbed Merlin's Cannon.

Returned it.

Merlin nearly died.

What saved him was not power.

It was Arthur.

Arthur arrived wounded.

Held Pyraxion long enough for Merlin to recover.

Lancelot arrived next.

Morgana.

The battle stopped being four duels.

Excalibur Four became Excalibur Four.

That was why they survived.

Not because each defeated an Obscura.

They did not.

Because they stopped accepting the enemy's pairings.

Arthur attacked Syratha.

Lancelot disrupted Vaeldran.

Morgana trapped Narikel with Clipeous.

Merlin used Imperium against Pyraxion.

Then switched.

Again.

Again.

Again.

No fixed opponent.

No pride.

No individual victory.

Team.

The Obscura adapted.

Excalibur adapted faster.

Eventually the four stolen bodies retreated through a Sumaya breach.

Excalibur Four were too injured to follow.

The battle ended.

No victory.

No defeat.

Only survival.

The Kwasar Council believed them after that.

Obscura became official war doctrine.

Fallen Kwasar bodies were no longer to be abandoned.

Recovery became sacred.

Destruction became acceptable when recovery failed.

The war changed.

And so did Excalibur Four.

XX

THE FOUR THAT RETURNED

Cass looked towards the dark Urkulo forest.

“They're the same ones.”

Merlin nodded.

“Yes.”

“After all that time.”

“Yes.”

“The Sumaya kept them.”

“Yes.”

Tom frowned.

“Bodies should degrade.”

“Vitalia.”

Merlin answered.

“Oblivion.”

“Biological repair.”

“Sumaya modification.”

“Possibly other processes we do not understand.”

Tom looked horrified.

“So they can maintain a stolen Kwasar vessel for extremely long periods.”

“Yes.”

Kira whispered:

“And they were on the Moon.”

“Yes.”

Morgana looked towards the stars.

“Syratha.”

Arthur:

“Vaeldran.”

Lancelot:

“Narikel.”

Merlin:

“Pyraxion.”

Four names.

Four futures.

Four enemies still alive.

Somewhere.

Max looked towards Lancelot.

“You didn't kill Narikel.”

“No.”

“Could you?”

Lancelot looked at him.

“Yes.”

Max waited.

Lancelot continued.

“If I am willing to die too.”

That answer changed the air.

XXI

THE PLAN THAT DIED

Tom stared into the fire.

“The three hundred are gone.”

“Yes.”

“Then the original strategy is gone.”

“Yes.”

“Goddark's accelerated Kwasar expansion plan through Earth…”

Merlin hesitated.

“That version of it.”

Tom looked up.

“What does that mean?”

Merlin looked towards the six.

“You are still here.”

Cass laughed bitterly.

“Six.”

“Yes.”

“Against an army of Obscura.”

“Yes.”

“That is not a plan.”

“No.”

“What is it?”

Merlin's expression changed.

“A beginning.”

Cass almost shouted.

Then stopped.

Because Merlin was not pretending six could win a cosmic war.

He was saying something else.

The old plan had been numbers.

Three hundred.

Train six first.

Make them Prenova Bishops.

Use them to accelerate the rest.

Then build hundreds of future Kwasars.

The Moon had killed that plan.

So now—

the six had to become something the plan had never expected.

Not simply the first teachers.

The surviving seed.

Vega looked towards Merlin.

“What happens now?”

Merlin answered:

“You disappear.”

Max frowned.

“Comforting.”

“To everyone outside this refuge.”

“No councils.”

“No Kwasar orders.”

“No Urkulo society.”

“No announcements.”

“No introduction to the civilization.”

Tom understood.

“We remain illegal.”

“Yes.”

“Hidden.”

“Yes.”

“For how long?”

Merlin looked towards Arthur.

Morgana.

Lancelot.

Then back.

“Until you can survive being known.”

XXII

SUBLIME

Arthur stood.

He was still injured.

Still not fully restored.

Yet when he looked towards the six, the old severity returned.

“Training resumes tomorrow.”

Cass stared.

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes.”

“Our friends died three days ago.”

“Yes.”

“Our Moon exploded.”

“Yes.”

“Earth is dying.”

“Yes.”

“And tomorrow?”

“Yes.”

Cass stood.

Angry.

Arthur did not move.

“You think I don't understand.”

Cass's voice shook.

“You don't.”

Arthur looked at him.

“No.”

“You don't.”

Then Arthur touched the damaged section of his own chest.

“I lost my world before you were born.”

Silence.

“Not Earth.”

“Not your people.”

“Mine.”

Cass stopped.

Arthur continued.

“I know only this.”

“If grief tells you to lie down forever…”

He stepped closer.

“…the enemy no longer needs to kill you.”

Cass's eyes filled.

Arthur's did not.

Not because he did not feel.

Because that was how he survived feeling.

“You will grieve.”

“Yes.”

“You will hate us.”

“Probably.”

“You will hate the training.”

“Definitely.”

“You will ask why you survived.”

Cass looked away.

Arthur lowered his voice.

“And we will not have an answer.”

That was the truth.

Then:

“But tomorrow…”

Arthur placed one hand on Cass's shoulder.

“…we begin Sublime.”

Morgana looked towards Cala and Kira.

“Not because loss should be forgotten.”

“Because it must be carried forward without controlling everything you become.”

Raven.

Again.

Remain yours.

Lancelot looked towards Max.

“You will complain.”

“Constantly.”

“Good.”

Max smiled weakly.

“Will there be food?”

“Yes.”

“Then maybe.”

Lancelot smiled.

Good.

Merlin looked towards Tom.

“You will try to solve what happened.”

Tom stared.

“Yes.”

“You cannot.”

Tom's face tightened.

“I can understand it.”

“Eventually.”

“Why the Sumaya knew.”

“Yes.”

“How the Obscura bypassed defence.”

“Yes.”

“Why the Moon—”

“Yes.”

Merlin stopped him.

“But you cannot solve grief.”

Tom looked down.

“What do I do with it?”

Merlin answered:

“Carry it honestly.”

Not useful enough.

Perhaps therefore true.

XXIII

THE CHOSEN SIX

The fire was dying.

Kira looked towards Merlin.

“Are we really chosen?”

Merlin stared at her.

“Yes.”

“By Goddark?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“I don't know.”

That surprised them.

“You don't?”

“No.”

“You're Merlin.”

Max said it as though this should provide universal administrative access.

Merlin smiled.

“I remain deeply offended by reality's refusal to explain itself to me.”

Lancelot nodded.

“Frequently.”

Merlin continued.

“I know only what Goddark showed us.”

“Six souls.”

“Linked.”

“Not identical.”

“Not all EvoSapiens.”

“Not all one class.”

“Not all one temperament.”

“Not all one origin.”

“But when together…”

He looked towards them.

“…the future changed.”

Tom frowned.

“You saw that?”

“Goddark did.”

“What future?”

“He would not say.”

“Why?”

“Perhaps he does not know.”

The idea that an Architect might not know everything should have frightened them.

It did.

Also liberated them.

Kira looked towards the dead fire.

“Maybe we die.”

“Yes.”

Merlin said it immediately.

Kira looked at him.

“Chosen doesn't mean we win.”

“No.”

“Doesn't mean we become Kwasars.”

“No.”

“Doesn't mean Earth survives.”

“No.”

She breathed.

“Then what does it mean?”

Merlin smiled sadly.

“That when a God looked at an entire Universe…”

He looked around the circle.

“…he pointed at you.”

Silence.

“That is all we know.”

XXIV

WHAT REMAINS

No Moon.

No New Arkadia.

No Oasis Programme.

No District 199.

No District 200.

No Fernand.

No Antonio Reis.

No Jason.

No Rafe.

No Silas.

No three hundred.

The Entourage sat in a forbidden sanctuary upon a world where they had no legal right to exist.

Protected by four Kwasars who had broken their own law.

Hunted by enemies capable of stealing the bodies of fallen demigods.

Earth still lived somewhere across Tzion.

Without its Moon.

Climate collapsing.

Civilization fractured.

Perhaps billions still alive.

Perhaps fewer.

No one in the sanctuary knew.

No one could safely contact them yet.

The six were alone in a way they had never been before.

And still—

not alone.

That was the distinction.

Cass looked towards Arthur.

“Tomorrow.”

Arthur nodded.

“Sublime Warrior.”

“Yes.”

“And after?”

“Arkana.”

“And after?”

“Vision Educatio.”

Cass looked towards his hands.

“And after that?”

Arthur smiled faintly.

“The Glory of the Kwasar.”

Cass remembered Merlin's story.

The old Paladin.

The man with white hair and white beard.

The path.

Now suddenly it was not mythology.

It was his future.

Maybe.

Tom looked towards Merlin.

“How many Vision Powers should a Kwasar master?”

Merlin smiled.

“The wrong question.”

Tom waited.

“What is the right one?”

“What power will the person you become actually need?”

Tom nodded.

He liked that better.

Vega looked towards Morgana.

“Can a Kwasar create something nobody has ever done?”

“Yes.”

“Something completely new.”

“Yes.”

Vega smiled faintly.

“Good.”

Cala looked towards the dark forest.

“Will we train separately?”

“Sometimes.”

“And together?”

“Mostly.”

“Why?”

Morgana answered:

“Because the Sumaya have already learned what individual Kwasars can do.”

She looked towards the six.

“What they still do not understand…”

A pause.

“…is you.”

Max looked towards Lancelot.

“Will we get Mirror Cloaks again?”

Lancelot smiled.

“You said you hated them.”

“I contain contradictions.”

“Yes.”

“Raven would approve.”

“Probably not.”

Kira was last.

“What happens to the four Obscura?”

Merlin looked at the stars.

“They will return.”

No qualification.

“They know we survived?”

“Probably.”

“They know about us?”

Merlin thought about New Arkadia.

The targeted Oasis sectors.

The enemy learning.

The six life signatures protected inside four Kwasar Asgardio fields.

Then:

“Maybe.”

Kira swallowed.

Merlin continued.

“So we become difficult to kill before they find out.”

XXV

THE END OF THE FIRST PATH

Far from Urkulo, among the debris field where the Moon had once existed, four figures remained.

No air.

No life.

No city.

Only fragments of New Arkadia rotating silently around Earth.

Vaeldran Mor stood upon a broken section of lunar foundation.

Dead eyes watching the blue planet.

Narikel floated beside him.

Unmoving.

Pyraxion burned without oxygen.

And Syratha Vey closed the stolen eyes of a woman who had once been a Kwasar Magister.

Something moved behind them.

Not physical.

Sumaya.

The four Obscura had failed to capture Excalibur Four.

But they had destroyed the army Goddark intended to raise.

Three hundred potential EvoSapiens Kwasar candidates.

Gone.

New Arkadia.

Gone.

The Moon.

Gone.

From any strategic perspective—

the Sumaya had won.

Then Syratha opened her eyes.

And smiled.

Because in the final instant before Asgardio—

she had felt them.

Six.

Only six.

Protected more fiercely than an army.

Interesting.

On Urkulo, Merlin suddenly looked upwards.

Morgana noticed.

“What?”

Merlin waited.

Mystica.

Nexo.

Instinct.

Something.

Then:

“Nothing.”

Morgana knew him too well.

“That was not nothing.”

Merlin looked towards The Entourage.

Sleeping now.

Finally.

Six exhausted bodies around the dying fire.

Arthur sitting guard.

Lancelot pretending not to.

Morgana beside him.

Merlin whispered:

“I think Syratha felt them.”

The three others became still.

Arthur looked towards the sleeping Prenovas.

“Then we move.”

Merlin shook his head.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because we have been running since the Moon.”

Arthur stared.

Merlin continued.

“If we keep running, they remain what the enemy hunts.”

He looked towards Cass.

Tom.

Max.

Vega.

Cala.

Kira.

“Tomorrow…”

A faint golden light appeared in his eyes.

“…we begin making them what the enemy fears.”

The final Universal Day of Universal Year I of Tzion continued.

Earth had lost its Moon.

The Oasis Programme had been exterminated.

The future army of EvoSapiens had died before it could be born.

New Arkadia existed only as debris.

The people The Entourage had loved were gone.

And for the first time since Excalibur Four arrived upon Earth, the mission no longer had institutions supporting it.

No Supra.

No Fernand.

No Antonio Reis.

No academy.

No city.

No programme.

No army.

Only ten survivors.

Four Magisters.

Six Prenovas.

A forbidden sanctuary.

And a promise nobody had authorised.

They would continue.

They would grieve.

They would hide.

They would train.

They would become Sublime Warriors.

They would learn Arkana.

They would begin the true Educatio of the Vision Powers.

And if their bodies, minds, souls and spirits survived every impossible threshold still ahead—

they would walk the path no one on Earth had believed was real.

The path from Sapiens…

to Kwasar.

Because the Sumaya had learned how to steal heroes after death.

The Obscura had changed the war.

And somewhere beyond the stars, four dead Kwasars wearing stolen power were already waiting for the next time Excalibur Four dared to face them.

Vaeldran Mor.

Syratha Vey.

Narikel.

Pyraxion.

The first four Obscura Excalibur had survived.

The four who destroyed New Arkadia.

The four who now knew that six Prenovas had escaped.

The first part of The Entourage's journey ended not with victory—

but with the destruction of everything that had made the journey possible.

And perhaps that was the final lesson of their first Educatio.

A hero is not the person whose world remains standing.

A hero is the person who discovers what remains inside them after the world falls—

and chooses to stand anyway.

Tomorrow, on a planet forbidden to them,

beneath the ancient skies of Urkulo,

the six would rise.

And the path to the Sublime would begin.
