🔥💀 Abyssals Faction, The Biomantic Legion of Flesh, Flame, and Formless War

From the blackened womb of the Abyss—beyond the reach of light, law, or time—emerge the Abyssals: shapeshifting biomancers, demonic warlords born of cursed matter and malignant will. They are not bound to one form or function; they are war given flesh, sculptors of bone and blood who twist their bodies into weapons of unspeakable power.

They are not chaos incarnate.
They are its architects.

🩸 Demonic Shapeshifters and Flesh-Crafters

The Abyssals wield the ancient, forbidden art of biomancy—the manipulation of living tissue as if it were clay. At will, they can reshape their limbs into blades, split their jaws into plasma cannons, or grow wings, spines, claws, and eyes from a single breath of rage. Their flesh is a living weapon, always in motion, always adapting.

No two Abyssals ever look the same for long, but their base forms often echo the nightmares etched into myth:

  • Towering horned hulks, with skin the color of bleeding ember

  • Sinewy hunters, cloaked in living tendrils and crowned with bone masks

  • Infernal juggernauts, whose every footstep warps gravity and melts steel

Their skin burns in hues of crimson, obsidian, and scorched gold. Their eyes blaze like molten ore. Their horns curl like the roots of broken stars. They radiate dread, not just through appearance—but through presence.

⚔️ Masters of War—Ancient and Future

Though primal in nature, the Abyssals are anything but primitive. They are battle philosophers, students of war across eons and dimensions. They have mastered the most sacred martial techniques, drawn from extinct warrior cultures long erased by time. Yet they also command the deadliest military technologies, stolen or corrupted from the high civilizations of the Multiverse.

They fight with:

  • Pulse-forged axes that chant while they cleave

  • Living firearms that scream as they fire corrosive rounds

  • Void sabers that ripple across time

  • Psionic detonators fueled by harvested anguish

Their knowledge is stolen, absorbed, repurposed—and their minds, though monstrous, are calculating and dangerously strategic.

💀 The Legion from Below

The Abyssals do not serve. They devour.
They are ruled by Archfiends—ancient biomantic tyrants who govern through force, terror, and domination. Each Archfiend controls a host of horrors, bound through rites of pain, blood, and allegiance. Their hierarchy is primal, brutal, and absolute.

In war, they descend like a plague—restructuring battlefields with their very bodies, corrupting the terrain, infecting matter, bending physics. They are the perfect fusion of demon and dreadnought, of ritual and recoil, of flesh and machine.

"To fight an Abyssal is to wage war on a nightmare that reshapes itself with every blow.
Steel cannot trust its edge.
Thought cannot trust its aim.
Victory itself begins to rot."

They are the Abyssals.
Hell given purpose. Flesh given rage. War without end.

Abyssals Faction: Open-Codex Rules:

"Rising from the chaos of the Tartaria, the Abyssals embody the raw forces of entropy and destruction, their mere presence a challenge to the order of the multiverse."

The Abyssals are fearsome beings born of chaos, shaped by the ever-shifting energies of Tartaria's Primordial power. Towering and formidable, they manifest in various demonic forms—ranging from horned humanoids to massive, muscular entities. Their skin, tinted in shades of deep crimson and fiery orange, is crowned with jagged, curved horns, a testament to their raw power. Glowing eyes and clawed hands mark their undeniable connection to the destructive forces of their home plane."

Abyssals are not inherently evil, but their chaotic nature drives them toward disruption and change. Some mortals see them as avatars of destruction, while others interpret their presence as a necessary force to tear down stagnation and corruption. Although many Abyssals are bound to the chaos of Tartaria Antiverse, others venture into the material plane, seeking meaning, freedom, or even redemption.

Born of Tartaria

The Abyssals hail from the Primordial depths of Tartaria, a plane of infinite disorder and constant transformation. This realm is a place where reality itself bends and twists, forming landscapes of impossible geometry, rivers of liquid flame, and skies filled with swirling storms of raw chaos. The Abyssals are shaped by this environment, their forms and powers reflecting the plane’s unpredictability and destructive energy.

Most Abyssals are created spontaneously within Tartaria, formed from pure chaotic energy. Their individuality is often tied to the unique circumstances of their creation—one Abyssal might emerge from a tempest of fiery winds, while another could coalesce from a churning void of shadow and anguish. These origins often influence their personalities, powers, and appearance.

The Abyssals’ relationship with their chaotic home is complex. Some revel in the turmoil, seeing themselves as its rightful agents. Others feel trapped by its endless unpredictability and seek escape, wandering the multiverse in search of purpose or freedom.

Abyssals in the Material Plane

When an Abyssal manifests in the material plane, their arrival is rarely subtle. The air may shimmer with heat, shadows might ripple unnaturally, or the earth beneath their feet could crackle with raw energy. Their physical forms are powerful and intimidating: tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular, with skin that seems to radiate a faint, unnatural warmth. Their horns vary in shape and size—some spiraling like ram’s horns, others jagged and pointed like broken blades.

Mortals often fear Abyssals, associating them with destruction and chaos. However, this perception is not entirely accurate. While many Abyssals are destructive by nature, others are drawn to the material plane out of curiosity, exile, or a desire to escape the turmoil of the Abyss. Such Abyssals may struggle to find acceptance among mortals, their appearance and aura of otherworldly power marking them as outsiders.

Culture of the Abyssals

Abyssals lack a unified culture, as their chaotic nature resists structure and organization. However, they do share certain traits and tendencies:

  • Individuality Above All: Abyssals prize personal freedom and self-expression. Each Abyssal is a unique being, and they fiercely resist attempts to impose conformity.
  • Strength and Resilience: In the harsh environment of Tartaria, only the strong survive. Abyssals respect physical power, cunning, and the ability to endure hardship.
  • Agents of Change: Many Abyssals see themselves as forces of necessary change, tearing down stagnant systems to make way for new growth. This philosophy can make them both allies and enemies to mortals, depending on the circumstances.

When Abyssals gather, it is usually under the leadership of a particularly powerful or charismatic individual. These gatherings are short-lived, as their chaotic nature often leads to infighting and eventual disbandment.

Playing an Abyssal

As an Abyssal character, you are a living embodiment of chaos, both feared and misunderstood by the world around you. Your journey might involve grappling with your otherworldly nature, seeking acceptance in a mortal world that views you with suspicion, or embracing your role as an agent of change.

Questions for Roleplaying

Consider the following questions when creating your Abyssal character:

  • What drew you to the material plane? Were you exiled, or did you leave of your own accord?
  • How do you feel about mortals? Do you see them as fragile and insignificant, or do you admire their determination and creativity?
  • Do you embrace your chaotic nature, or do you seek to suppress it and live a more orderly existence?

Abyssal Traits

If you choose to play as an Abyssal, your character gains the following racial traits:

Ability Score Increase: Your Strength score increases by +2, and your Charisma score increases by +1.

Age: Abyssals do not age like mortals. Upon their creation, they appear to be in their prime and remain so until their chaotic energy wanes, often after centuries.

Alignment: Abyssals tend to be chaotic. They often resist structure and laws, but their moral compass can vary from destructive and malevolent to neutral or even benevolent.

Size: Abyssals are larger than most humanoids, standing between 6 and 8 feet tall and weighing between 200 and 300 pounds. Your size is Medium or Large (chosen at character creation).

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision: Accustomed to the perpetual gloom of the Abyss, you can see in darkness within 60 feet as if it were dim light, and in dim light as if it were bright light. You can’t discern colour in darkness, only shades of gray.

Abyssal Resilience: You have resistance to necrotic damage and fire damage.

Chaotic Form: When creating your character, choose two of the following traits to reflect your unique chaotic heritage:

  • Infernal Claws: Your unarmed strikes deal 1d6 slashing damage.
  • Fiery Presence: You can cast Hellish Rebuke once per long rest.
  • Aura of Terror: As an action, you can force creatures within 10 feet to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier). On a failure, they are frightened until the end of your next turn.
  • Warped Resistance: You gain resistance to either cold or lightning damage (chosen at character creation).

Planar Corruption: Once per long rest, you can release a wave of chaotic energy in a 15-foot radius. Creatures of your choice must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or take 2d8 damage (fire, necrotic, or psychic, chosen by you) and have disadvantage on attack rolls until the end of their next turn.

Languages: You can speak, read, and write Abyssal and Common OmniLingua.

Subraces: Abyssal Variants

The chaotic nature of the Abyss manifests in diverse forms among its denizens. When creating an Abyssal, choose one of the following subraces:

Flameborn Abyssals

Born from the infernal fires of the Abyss, Flameborn Abyssals are blazing warriors of destruction.

  • Abyssal Flames: You can cast Burning Hands once per long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
  • Flame Resistance: You have immunity to environmental fire hazards and resistance to fire damage.

Voidborn Abyssals

Formed in the shadowy depths of the Abyss, Voidborn Abyssals embody terror and psychological chaos.

  • Aura of Dread: When a creature starts its turn within 10 feet of you, it must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be frightened until the end of its turn.
  • Psychic Resilience: You have resistance to psychic damage.

Ironhide Abyssals

Shaped by the molten metals of the Abyss, Ironhide Abyssals are living fortresses.

  • Metallic Resilience: Your Armor Class increases by +1 while not wearing armor.
  • Bulwark of Chaos: You can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on a melee attack targeting a creature within 5 feet of you.

Abyssal Names

Abyssal names are harsh, guttural, and otherworldly. Many reflect concepts tied to chaos or destruction, while others are chosen to inspire fear or awe among mortals. Names often echo the Abyssals’ origins and unique characteristics. Examples include:

  • Masculine Names: Kaelvorr, Zorthal, Vraxis, Xaldorath, Mordrex.
  • Feminine Names: Lysira, Malthariel, Nyxora, Zyrrith, Aelthra.
  • Neutral Names: Zykrith, Thalior, Ordrak, Vrythix, Shaldrax.

Abyssals that integrate into mortal societies sometimes adopt names in the Common tongue, though these are often influenced by their original Abyssal identities, resulting in unusual or intimidating monikers.

Playing an Abyssal

As an Abyssal, you are a living embodiment of chaos, both feared and misunderstood. Your physical power and connection to the Abyss make you a formidable ally or a terrifying foe. The following examples and suggestions can help inspire your character’s backstory and motivations:

Example Abyssal Characters

  • "Zorvak, a Flameborn Abyssal with spiraling horns and glowing red eyes, was exiled from the Abyss for his refusal to serve a greater chaos lord. Now, he roams the material plane, using his fiery abilities to protect those who cannot protect themselves."
  • "Rythax, an Ironhide Abyssal with skin resembling molten iron, serves as a mercenary for hire. Though he prefers to fight for gold, he secretly dreams of forging a peaceful existence in a world that fears his presence."
  • "Nyxora, a Voidborn Abyssal with shimmering, shadowy skin, seeks vengeance against those who summoned her from the Abyss only to imprison her. Her psychic powers and aura of dread make her a feared but respected companion."

Roleplaying Hooks

  • Do you see the chaos within you as a curse, or do you embrace it as your true nature?
  • How do you reconcile your Abyssal origins with your actions in the material plane? Do you try to live among mortals, or do you revel in their fear of you?
  • Are you seeking redemption for your destructive tendencies, or do you see your role as an agent of necessary change?

DM's Toolbox: Abyssals in the World

Abyssals can serve as fascinating additions to any campaign, whether as player characters, NPCs, or even antagonists. Dungeon Masters can use the following ideas to weave Abyssals into their storylines:

  • Summoning Gone Awry: A group of cultists accidentally summons an Abyssal that refuses to obey their commands, resulting in chaos and unexpected alliances.
  • Exiled Wanderer: An Abyssal character becomes the centerpiece of a local legend, viewed as either a protector or a harbinger of doom depending on the region’s experiences with them.
  • Abyssal Warbands: A charismatic Abyssal leader rallies others of their kind, forming a warband intent on spreading chaos across the material plane. The players must decide whether to confront or negotiate with this volatile force.
  • Abyssal Relics: Artifacts from the Abyss may carry fragments of chaotic energy, drawing Abyssals to seek these items either to claim their power or to prevent mortals from misusing them.

Abyssals in Combat

The Abyssals’ unique abilities make them versatile combatants. Their resilience and chaotic powers can turn the tide of battle in their favor, and their large size gives them a commanding presence on the battlefield.

  • Tank Roles: Ironhide Abyssals excel at absorbing damage and protecting their allies, using their natural armor and reaction-based abilities to control the flow of combat.
  • Damage Dealers: Flameborn Abyssals are ideal for dealing consistent area damage, especially against groups of weaker enemies. Their fiery presence and spell-like abilities make them a threat at both melee and range.
  • Support and Control: Voidborn Abyssals can manipulate enemies with their Aura of Dread, forcing foes to waste actions avoiding or escaping their fear effects.

Guide for Assembling and Painting Inspirational Figures

Disclaimer

Please note that the process of assembling and painting your inspirational figures involves the use of tools, adhesives, and paints that may pose certain risks if not handled properly. By following this guide, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety during the assembly and customization of your figures. The manufacturer and seller assume no liability for injuries or damages that may occur due to improper handling of sharp instruments, adhesives, paints, or any other tools used in the process. It is highly recommended that you follow all safety precautions and use protective equipment as needed.

Assembling Your Figure
- Set up a clean, well-lit workspace. Lay out all the parts and organize them based on their assembly sequence. This helps avoid confusion and ensures an efficient assembly process.

- Before applying adhesive, practice fitting the pieces together to understand how they align. This step is crucial for preventing misalignment and ensuring a proper fit. Take your time to familiarize yourself with each part's position.

- Use a high-quality superglue suitable for resin models. Apply a small amount to the joining surfaces, press the pieces together, and hold until the glue sets. Always work in a well-ventilated area and avoid direct contact with adhesives. If accidental skin contact occurs, follow the adhesive manufacturer's safety instructions.

- For parts that need extra time to bond, you can use clamps or tape to hold them in place while the adhesive dries. Ensure that the clamping pressure is even to prevent any damage to the model.

Safety Tips for Assembly

- The assembly process may involve the use of sharp tools such as hobby knives or cutters to remove excess resin or mold lines. Always cut away from your body and use a cutting mat to protect surfaces. Wear protective gloves to minimize the risk of injury.

-Superglue can bond skin instantly. Use caution when applying adhesives, and consider wearing disposable gloves. In case of accidental bonding, follow the manufacturer's recommended procedure for safely separating bonded skin.

- Keep your workspace free of clutter to avoid accidents. Ensure that all tools are properly stored when not in use, especially sharp instruments.

Painting Your Figure

- Apply a primer to ensure the paint adheres properly to the resin surface. Use a spray primer made specifically for plastic or resin, and apply in thin, even coats. Priming is essential for achieving a smooth and durable paint finish.

- Once primed, start with your base colors. Acrylic paints are recommended due to their ease of use and quick drying times. Apply paint in thin layers to preserve the intricate details of the model.

- Use smaller brushes for detailed areas, adding depth and dimension to your figure. Techniques such as dry brushing or applying washes can help highlight textures and bring out the finer details.

- Once the paint is completely dry, apply a clear sealer to protect your work. You can choose between matte or gloss varnish, depending on the desired finish. Sealing helps protect the paint from chipping and enhances the longevity of your customized figure.

Additional Tips

- Especially if you're new to assembling and painting models, patience is key. Rushing can lead to mistakes that may be difficult to correct.

- If you're unsure about colors or painting techniques, practice on a spare part or an inconspicuous area of the figure. This will help build your confidence before applying paint to visible areas.

- There are numerous online tutorials, forums, and communities dedicated to model assembly and painting. These can be invaluable for learning new techniques and finding inspiration for your projects.
